This is a personal account of building and operating HeheStreams—a piracy website I founded and was eventually arrested by the FBI for—the consequences which included a term in federal prison, personal reflections, and what I'm doing today.

What originally lived here was an informational website that I passed along with my resume to prospective employers. It explained why I went to prison. Additionally, I would cite this in various discussions on the internet—not thinking anyone was paying attention—and I offered it to friends and family for a speed-run on what actually happened.

Around midnight GMT-6 on September 30, this website hit the frontpage of HackerNews and earned itself over 169 points. Nice. I took it down then because I was still considered in custody due to being on house arrest: I wanted to completely avoid any potential confusion with my probation officer—being called a hacker by the US Government and ending up on the front page of a website called HackerNews—regardless of its true meaning—is something that an average person has a likelihood to misconstrue.

I have since entered my three-year probation stint and feel more comfortable talking about what happened with a critical lens. I feel that there's no better mechanism for me to display my acceptance of responsibility.

Before I lose you, I could use your help: I have been trying unsuccessfully to re-gain access to my GitHub account. More details on the HackerNews thread.

You can follow me on Twitter, add me on LinkedIn, or read my blog (which I am unable to update at present due to being unable to access my GitHub). My email address is my first name@this root domain.
